Half Dome Blues

I took this shot of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park almost 2 years ago during the blue hour. I stuck around after it got dark to see the stars and was surprised to also see the headlamps of the climbers making camp on the side of Half Dome. I thought that was pretty cool. If you ever get the chance to go to Yosemite you should. It’s an amazing place.

“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go'” – Isaiah 48:17

Along the Tuolumne River

During my first visit to Yosemite we decided to get away from the crowds and heat (it was about 100F in the valley) and head to Tuolumne Meadows. Being at around 9,000 feet it was nice and cool and the weather was perfect. I definitely would like to explore some more of that area. Make sure to check it out if you ever head to Yosemite. You won’t be disappointed.

Mirror Lake Reflections

Here’s one from last summer at Mirror Lake in Yosemite National Park. The lake is actually quite small and I would hardly call it a lake. I remember reading on a kiosk that it used to be a lot bigger when there was a hotel on it because they used to dredge it out. The hotel burned down a long time ago and after that the park service decided to let things go natural. Now the lake is more like a couple ponds. Well, I hope you enjoyed that fact and that my memory was correct. Otherwise, it was a useless fact and I just wasted one minute of your life that you’ll never get back.

Ahwahnee Bridge

Bridges in general are cool to shoot and I find stone bridges particularly cool. There are a couple of them in the Yosemite Valley that cross the Merced River. This one is the Ahwanee Bridge which was built in 1928 to a length of 122 feet. I took this shot last summer during my first time in the valley on a cold and overcast day. I was a little worried the storm would stick around the whole week I was there but luckily it cleared up and I was able to enjoy Yosemite in all its glory.

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” – John 14:6

A Long Way to Go

Over the last summer I was in Yosemite National Park in California and we visited the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. It was my first time seeing a Sequoia in person and they definitely lived up to their name. My wide angle lens makes them look thinner than they are but these trees are massive. I don’t know if the little sapling in the frame is a Sequoia but, if it is, it’s got long way to go before it’s as big as it’s neighbors. At least everything is looking up.

Hike for Miles

Before this last summer I had never heard of Tuolumne Meadows until I mentioned to a relative that I was going to Yosemite. She highly recommended it and it didn’t disappoint. I was only there for a couple hours but it was such an awesome place. You could hike for miles and never get bored of the scenery. I wish I could have pitched a tent in the middle of the meadow and watched clouds go by. Maybe next time.

Not Lost

My first day in Yosemite Valley was an overcast and rainy one. You could hardly see the surrounding mountains but we came a long way so we weren’t going to let some rain stop us. So, we cruised around the valley and decided to check out the Swinging Bridge. When we got to it we saw that it was quit sturdy and not so swinging. I guess I was thinking it would be more like a suspension bridge.

We crossed the bridge over the Merced River and kept hiking to see if there was another bridge with a little more swing to it. We did find another bridge but it wasn’t “swinging” so we kept going. After a while we decided that we weren’t going to find what we were looking for but now we didn’t know where we were. My wife was starting to get worried since she was 7 months pregnant and we had our two year old with us. I didn’t think we were lost as long as we followed the river. We could always go back the way we came but what fun is that. Besides, we were exploring. We eventually ended up by the Yosemite Lodge and we found our way back and lived happily ever after. THE END 🙂

Away From The Spray

I photographed Vernal Falls in Yosemite National Park for the first time this summer and experienced the amount of spray that comes off of it. Fortunately I found a spot behind a rock that sheltered me from the spray and I could take as long as I needed without worrying about water drops accumulating on my lens.

Caught My Eye

As I was walking back from Mirror Lake in Yosemite National Park I noticed some cool shadows as the sun was going down through the trees. With that and the vibrant green foliage I thought they made for a nice scene.

Pohono Bridge

There are a lot cool stone bridges in the Yosemite Valley. I noticed this bridge one evening when I was driving back to where I was staying. It had a cool golden glow underneath but I didn’t have time to stop. I went back the next evening and unfortunately I was about 10 minutes too late. Too bad for me but if you ever go to Yosemite Valley in the summer time (I was there the last week in June) look for the golden glow about 1/2 hour before sunset.
