Forest Sunburst

Here’s a little sunburst captured last summer in Montana.

But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. – Acts 2:24

Afternoon Snowshoe

Here’s one from a snowshoe up at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park taken in January. I had been sick the day before so I wasn’t feeling 100% but it was sunny and warm (32°F) so there was no way I could pass it up.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” – John 11:25

Popcorn Blossom

I’m not sure what type of tree this is but you see them all over the place in Washington. I think their blossoms look like popcorn.

“‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” – Matthew 22:36-39

Old and Abandoned

I did some early morning shooting a couple weeks ago and stopped by an old house I’ve wanted to photograph for a while. Here it is.

“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:26-28

Forest Service Road 7012

We were up in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest just outside of Mount Rainier last weekend on a Christmas Tree hunt. If you’ve ever cut down a tree in the forest you know that they are more like Charlie Brown Trees than ones you find at a Christmas Tree Lot/Farm. Nevertheless, I think the one we got was pretty good. The roads were pretty nice and the sun was out so it made for a nice family adventure. Anyway, here’s a picture of the sun poking through the trees along Forest Road 7012.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot” – Matthew 5:13

Shipwrecks Sunrise

Here’s one from a trip to Kauai we made last year. It’s always nice getting up for sunrise when it’s warm out. Makes it a little easier to get out of bed.

“Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’s anger” – Zephaniah 2:3

Spring Canyon Marina Park

I was browsing some photography videos on youtube a few months ago and came across one by Steve Perry (not the singer from Journey) for getting rid of unwanted sun glare. Basically you take your photo, or photos if you’re bracketing, with the sun and then you take another set of photos blocking out the sun with your thumb or fist. You then process them the same and do some layer masking Ju-Jitsu in photoshop to mask away the sun glare. It was one of those ideas where I said to myself why didn’t I think of it before. Anyway, I applied the technique to this sunrise photo taking at the Spring Canyon Marina in Lake Roosevelt, Washington.

“As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land.” – Ezekiel 34:12-13

Lake Roosevelt Sunrise

I camped out at Lake Roosevelt, Washington over Memorial Day and headed out one morning for sunrise. The birds were so loud once the sun started rising that by the time 4:30 AM rolled around I was already pretty awake. I really only had one morning where I could shoot the sunrise so there was no way I was going back to sleep. I’m glad I ventured out. It was such a nice morning and I had a great time wandering around taking photos. When I was finished and heading back to the campsite I was walking back on a grassy trail pondering things and I stepped probably a foot away from a snake sunbathing in the early morning sun. I didn’t even notice it until I was mid stride which made me jump a little. That area is known for rattlesnakes so it was more than likely a rattler. I thanked God for watching over me because that could have really ruined my morning amongst other things.

“Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor” – Isaiah 60:21

Making Tracks

We went for our first snowshoe of 2015 up at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park on Sunday. It was such a nice day and really warm. Being 60 degrees out it felt like Spring rather than the middle of January. As we were driving up we were worried that there wouldn’t be enough snow to snowshoe but fortunately as we got closer to Paradise there was plenty of snow. We did about a 2-3 mile loop from a little turnout on the right before you get to the first parking lot where the old visitor’s center used to be, up passed the lodge, and then along the upper part of Myrtle Falls. I took the shot below on our way back. The creek that eventually becomes Myrtle Falls is on my left and the Tatoosh Mountain Range is in the distance.

“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man” – Proverbs 24:33-34
