Afternoon Snowshoe

Here’s one from a snowshoe up at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park taken in January. I had been sick the day before so I wasn’t feeling 100% but it was sunny and warm (32°F) so there was no way I could pass it up.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” – John 11:25

Forest Service Road 7012

We were up in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest just outside of Mount Rainier last weekend on a Christmas Tree hunt. If you’ve ever cut down a tree in the forest you know that they are more like Charlie Brown Trees than ones you find at a Christmas Tree Lot/Farm. Nevertheless, I think the one we got was pretty good. The roads were pretty nice and the sun was out so it made for a nice family adventure. Anyway, here’s a picture of the sun poking through the trees along Forest Road 7012.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot” – Matthew 5:13

Shipwrecks Sunrise

Here’s one from a trip to Kauai we made last year. It’s always nice getting up for sunrise when it’s warm out. Makes it a little easier to get out of bed.

“Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’s anger” – Zephaniah 2:3

Lake Roosevelt Sunrise

I camped out at Lake Roosevelt, Washington over Memorial Day and headed out one morning for sunrise. The birds were so loud once the sun started rising that by the time 4:30 AM rolled around I was already pretty awake. I really only had one morning where I could shoot the sunrise so there was no way I was going back to sleep. I’m glad I ventured out. It was such a nice morning and I had a great time wandering around taking photos. When I was finished and heading back to the campsite I was walking back on a grassy trail pondering things and I stepped probably a foot away from a snake sunbathing in the early morning sun. I didn’t even notice it until I was mid stride which made me jump a little. That area is known for rattlesnakes so it was more than likely a rattler. I thanked God for watching over me because that could have really ruined my morning amongst other things.

“Then all your people will be righteous and they will possess the land forever. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor” – Isaiah 60:21

Sunrise at Lydgate State Park

I was up bright and early almost everyday I was in Kauai last April. The nice thing about shooting sunrise in Kauai was that I could wear shorts and flip-flops and be the perfect temperature. One morning I stopped by Lydgate State Park. I pretty much had the place to myself except for one guy who was swimming laps in one of the rock enclosed ocean ponds and some chickens (if you haven’t been to Kauai there are wild chickens all over the place). I had a nice peaceful time exploring the area and when I got back to my car I smelled something funny. I checked my flip-flops and they seemed clean but then I looked on my calf and there it was, chicken poop! I must have flip-flopped it up my leg. Darn chickens got me. Although if that’s the Kauai version of Montezuma’s Revenge I’ll take it 🙂

“A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.” – Proverbs 19:11

Changing Fruit Tree

Here’s one from a weekend trip to Wenatchee. I’m not really sure what type of fruit tree this is but my guess is that it’s some sort of apple tree since Wenatchee is known as the Apple Capital. It was my first time to Wenatchee and I had a pretty good time. It was pretty scenic with the fall colors and the Columbia River going right through the middle of the city.

“Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops” – Proverbs 3:9

The Anointed Tree

I was in Wenatchee, Washington last week in search of some fall colors. It was my first time over there so I did some exploring with some friends. The weather wasn’t that great but we headed up to a place called Eagle Rock (the peak in the distance in the photo below). It’s about a 6 mile hike from the base of the hill to Eagle Rock or you can drive 4.5 miles of it and hike the rest. You will need a 4×4 of some sorts since the road is a dirt road with big ruts in some spots.

While we were hiking around up there we came across this tree growing at the edge of this rock cliff. It was pretty unique looking and the sun broke through at just the right moment. I thought a nice sunburst right over the tree would look cool.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Montana Flare

We just got back from a trip to Montana. We got a couple nice days but for the most part it was rainy and windy. It wasn’t great for photography but it kept my arch nemesis, the mosquito, away so I was happy about that. The most unfortunate part was that it was raining a lot when we went to Glacier National Park so we didn’t get any of the views. I’ve been there a bunch of times before so I wasn’t that disappointed but I made the best of what presented itself.

Here’s a shot from a VRBO we stayed at in Whitefish, Montana I highly recommend. It’s about an hour and half from Glacier National Park and it’s surrounded by state forest with some great mountain biking trails. Let me know if you’re interested and I can send you the details.

“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.” – Psalm 50:1
