Shipwreck of the Peter Iredale

This is all that is left of the Peter Iredale which went aground on October 26, 1906 at the Clatsop Spit in Oregon. There were no casualties and the ship was actually pretty intact but it got stuck in the sand so most of it was sold for scrap. If you’re interested you can read more about it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Iredale

Shipwrecked Sunset

I camped at Fort Stevens, Oregon last weekend. Pretty cool place with tons of bike riding trails, old military structures, and even a shipwreck (Peter Iredale). Pretty awesome.

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'” – Matthew 19:26

Hoodie Sunset

Here’s one from back in December 2014 at Picnic Point, Washington. I was photographing the Olympic Mountains at sunset about ready to pack things up when a guy in a hoodie walked up to the shore to check out the sunset. I thought I might as well include him in a shot. I do remember that I had to hop across a couple of streams to get where I was which is normally not a problem except I was feeling kind of nauseous that day. Luckily I successfully made my leaps without losing my lunch. A win win.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” – Matthew 7:13-14

Tide Pool Sunset

One of the many cool things about Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon are the tide pools that you’ll find when the tide is low. There is tons of sea life which is always fun for the kids and they make for cool subjects at sunset.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” – Matthew 6:19-21

Haystack Silhouette

Here’s another one from Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon. As I was walking around the rock trying to find different angles I spotted a nice reflection in the tide pools. It was a good reminder for me to keep my eyes open, not to stay put, and try to find something unique to capture even if it has been photographed millions of times.

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” – Jeremiah 32:27

Stick Around

I was in Cannon Beach, Oregon last weekend for the 4th of July. It was nice to get out on the coast where it was about 15 degrees cooler (we’ve been in the 90s lately). I ventured out to catch the sunset at Haystack Rock. Now it was my first time at Cannon Beach and I quickly realized that sunset at Haystack Rock wasn’t the best place to catch the sunset on 4th of July weekend. There were about 1.2 million people all around Haystack Rock which is far from ideal for a landscape photographer who doesn’t like people in their shots. I even had a woman with her husband who was taking photos (so she should know better) start throwing a ball for her dog right in front of me. All I needed was about 2 minutes and I’d be done. I guess that’s the way it is at popular spots and I’m sure I got in someone else’s photo. What I did find is that if you stick around for the blue hour most of the people will leave and then you can have the place all to yourself (almost).

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all” – Isaiah 53:6
