Crescent Bay

I took some family photos for relatives when I was down in Orange County a few weeks ago. I don’t usually like to take people pictures but I’ll make an exception for family. This is Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach where the photo shoot started.

On the Bluff

This is the Dana Point Harbor in Orange County, California. Within the last couple of years the city opened some trails on the headlands above the harbor. I haven’t had a chance to check out the whole trail yet but maybe I will the next time I’m down there.

Doheny State Park

Just after finishing a barbecue at Doheny State Park I grabbed my camera gear to check out the sunset. San Juan creek was calm and still so it provided a nice reflection.

Doheny beach is just to left. There’s a nice marina there now but before the marina it was a really good surf spot. It’s actually mentioned in the Surfin’ USA song by the Beach Boys.

California Sun

I was down in San Clemente during Christmas 2011 meeting family for dinner at the pier. I knew we were going to be down there around sunset so I made sure to bring my camera. Good thing I did because the sunset was pretty nice. Nothing says Southern California like palm trees and a sunset. So, it was a good reminder that even if you are going to just hang out somewhere, bring you camera. It’s like basketball, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. No that’s not an original quote. I heard it somewhere in my baller dayz. Okay I wasn’t much of a baller but I did enjoy playing basketball from time to time. That’s the end of my ramblings for today.

Balboa Pier

I was down in Newport Beach a couple of years ago and captured this shot during sunset. I liked how the support pylons were breaking up the sunlight and the reflection off of the wet sand. While I was taking pictures there was a film crew filming some people but I never found out what is for. I might have made it into the background of one of their shots but I guess I’ll never know. Dang, that could have been my 15 minutes of fame.

Calming the Seas

The cool thing about long exposures is that it can calm even the most rough seas. The waves were about 6ft when I took this picture but with a long exposure it looks as calm as a lake. So calm that you could almost walk on it.

Mark 4:39 “He [Jesus] got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”

Saturate

Usually I like to keep things looking as realistic as possible even when combining multiple exposures but sometimes, especially with sunsets, you just got to saturate. I haven’t tried printing on metal yet but this one might be a good candidate for it.
