Winter Sunshine

Back in February we took advantage of the sunshine and headed out for a Sunday drive. First stop…Port Ludlow. Nice little area and being winter time we almost had the place to ourselves. Oh and the Olympic mountains were out in all their glory. Pretty sweet.

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. – Acts 2:21

At the End of the Day

Here’s another sunset shot from Beach 4 on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. I was kind of worried about the tide when I was taking this shot because it can change pretty fast. I’ve done a couple backpacking trips and got stuck in a cove once had to wait a couple of hours for the tide to go down. It wasn’t a problem this time though.

Tom Creek Falls

About 3 miles into the Hoh River Trail in Washington State’s Olympic National Park is Tom Creek Falls. You kind of have to do some bushwacking to really get up to it but nothing too crazy.

Private Show

I was camping at Kalaloch last August and I decided to head out for sunset at Ruby Beach. As I was going there I changed my mind because I had been there before and I wanted to see something different so I headed to Beach 4. Before I got to down to the beach I could see a lot of seagulls in the water. Once I got to the water I realized that there were a bunch of little tiny fish jumping which attracted not only the seagulls but seals and dolphins. It was pretty cool. I watched them swim around for a little bit then headed to the end of the beach to get some sunset shots.

By the time was I finished the beach was empty. It was just my wife, daughter, and me. We watched the dolphins some swim around some more and then as we were walking back something big caught our attention. We stopped and scanned the water and then it popped up again. A whale! It was awesome. We watched it for about 20 minutes. It was blowing a circle of bubbles and then it was coming straight out of the water as it was feeding. We couldn’t believe that we were the only ones around to witness it. It was one of the coolest things I have seen. Probably because it was so unexpected.

EarlyMorningSun

The Kalaloch campground is located on the Olympic Penninsula and is about an hour and half south of the Hoh Rainforest. It’s on the bluff overlooking a huge white sand beach. At night the crashing waves drown out the noise of the other campsites, which gives a more secluded feeling. It definitely made my top camping spot list.

Ruby Beach

I have this picture hanging in my house and almost everyone thinks it’s from the Oregon coast but it’s actually from Ruby Beach on the Washington coast. Ruby Beach is about an hour south from the famous (or infamous) Forks. I’ve been to Forks. I went before all this Twilight stuff happened. It just seemed like another small town. Not much to it. I did see some guy, probably in his 40s, steal a case of beer from Safeway. That was weird. It is close to the Hoh Rainforest which is pretty awesome.
