Night Lights

Here’s another night shot of Seattle taken from across the Puget Sound. There was a massive large cargo ship anchored in the middle of sound that was blocking the Space Needle the previous night. This night I was in a different spot to where I could get the city and the Space Needle without any obstructions. I would have liked to incorporate the ship but it just wasn’t working from where I was at so no ship for you.

“Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” – Isaiah 30:18

View From West Seattle

If you haven’t been to West Seattle it a pretty cool little beach town. There’s a nice waterfront walk that goes for a couple miles with great views of the city especially at night with reflections coming off the Puget Sound.

Times Square

I went to New York City for my first time back in 2012 and I made sure to stop by Times Square. Here’s a tip if you haven’t been there before: if someone in an Elmo costume gets in a picture you’re taking of your family, they are not doing it for fun or paid by the city like a costume character at Disneyland. They’re doing it for money. I have no problem with someone making an honest buck but at least let me know before I take the picture. Besides, I didn’t have any cash on me. Sorry Elmo.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'” – Jeremiah 29:11

Cruisin’ New York City

It’s too bad people have been getting so sick on cruise ships lately. I’ve been on two cruises so far, one to Alaska and one on the East Coast, and I haven’t gotten sick. The Alaska cruise was awesome. I would definitely recommend it because you can go places like Glacier Bay National Park that would be hard to get to or cost a lot if you did it on your own. The East Coast cruise was pretty fun. We went during the fall but unfortunately we were about a week too early that year. It was a great way to see a lot of the area and major cities though.

Anyway, this is of New York City on the back of our cruise boat as we were getting ready to set sail. We actually left about 2 hours late from port and I missed the city lights because my daughter was one-year old at the time and had to eat dinner. Pictures probably wouldn’t have come out that great with the boat moving and it being dark. At least that’s what I tell myself…

Detour

This last Christmas we decided to drive down from Washington to Southern California to visit family. I had mentioned to my wife that I wanted to stop in San Francisco but I’m not sure if she heard me. Maybe she did but didn’t take me seriously. Anyway, when the split for Sacramento vs San Francisco came up and I took the ramp to San Francisco she wasn’t very excited to say the least. Not that she had anything against San Francisco but she already had it in her mind to make it to Southern California as fast as possible. It was us and our two kids under three so I don’t blame her but a little spontaneity never hurts, right?

The detour didn’t go as smooth as I thought it would. I was heading for the Marin Headlands to takes some pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. We hit a bunch of traffic getting into the city via the Oakland Bridge and then as we hit the city our four-month old woke up after a nice nap to find that she was hungry. Now if you haven’t spent much time around babies they don’t tap you on the shoulder and politely ask for a snack. They cry and get progressively louder as they get hungrier. A fire engine could drive by with its sirens blaring and I probably wouldn’t have heard it. As you can imagine it was quite stressful especially when trying not to drive down a one-way street or hit a pedestrian.

We reached the headlands just before sunset which I thought was perfect timing. I had never been there before so I didn’t know that parking would be such a problem which it was. Luckily, I found a spot at the very last lookout at the top of the hill and waited for the city lights to come on as the sunlight was fading. It was definitely a cool place visit and hopefully I can head back there again. Next time I’ll make sure to plan things better and communicate those plans with the wife.

Proverbs 15:22
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

Something Different

After getting a shot of the Seattle with my zoom lens I decided to try something different and use my wide angle. This is up at Kerry Park in Seattle, Washington.

Old And New

When we was in New York City I tried to take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty but the lines were really long and I didn’t have time to wait so instead we went on a harbor cruise. I got some good views of the Statue of Liberty and the city. Another plus was that it was narrated so I learned some interesting facts which I’ve since forgotten. Anyway, this is the Brooklyn Bridge and the new Freedom Tower is on the left.

City Lights

I’ve only lived in Washington a couple of years and once I heard about Kerry Park I wanted to check it out. Well a couple of weeks ago I was in Seattle (I don’t go there that often) and I thought today is the day. I got up to Kerry Park about an hour and half before sunset and staked out a spot. It was a little cold but definitely worth the wait. I even saw a DeLorean cruise up when I was waiting for sunset. Roads…where we’re going we don’t need roads.

Inside the Empire

When I was in New York City a couple months ago I didn’t get a chance to go up the Empire State Building because I didn’t want to pay the $26 per person to ride the elevator so I took a couple pictures in the entrance. I had my tripod with me and so I was hoping to do an HDR. I didn’t think it would have been wise to set it up in the main entry because there were so many people so I wandered around and found an area where no one was around. I went to set up my tripod and as I was doing so a security guard tells me that it was not allowed. I asked him why and at first he said because he said so but then I think he saw I wasn’t trying to start trouble and he said it was a building policy. Oh well. I guess the dark-side won this time.

Sound Living

I’m not sure if I could sleep at night living over the water like this. Alki Point can get some pretty high winds (about 50mph) and with that comes waves. I’m sure the people that built the structure thought of that but still…

This is near the Alki Point Lighthouse in West Seattle.
