Sixth Bridge

This is Sixth Bridge located in Jasper National Park, Canada. Even though there weren’t that many people around it seemed as though every time I’d almost be done with the long exposure someone would walk into the frame. I don’t mind waiting but it happened a multiple times and then one guy decided to sit in the middle of the bridge and read a map. I just needed sixty seconds! I guess it was a good lesson in patience.

Christine Falls

I cruised around Mount Rainier National Park back in October and my first stop was Christine Falls. I’ve driven over these falls numerous times but I’ve never stopped to check it out. I’m glad I did as it is pretty impressive with the bridge coming over top if it. There was even a couple that had just gotten married right near where I took this shot. What a back drop that must have been!

Colonial Creek Campground

Here’s one from the Colonial Creek Campground in North Cascades National Park, Washington. There are a couple of walk-in sites that are right next to this creek and others in the trees along the Diablo Lake shore. Pretty nice.

Silver Falls Bridge

Is it just me or do other people think twice when leaking over wooden bridges like this one when hiking? I’m sure they are made well but I’m always thinking the wood planks could snap at any moment so I try to walk on the edges where they are nailed in. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

Rain Forest Loop

You know what’s stressful to do is take a long exposure with two little ones hanging around. I had the bright idea of doing a long exposure to get the water flowing under the bridge with them next to me with really nowhere for them to go since we were bound by the boardwalk we were on. For 2 minutes I fended them off while the shot developed. I told the younger one (2 years old) not to touch the tripod and of course she has to put her foot within millimeters of the tripod leg. Luckily, the shot came out because I sure wasn’t going to try another long exposure under those conditions.

This is from the Rain Forest Loop at the Carbonado Entrance in Mount Rainier National Park.

Narrows Park

Here’s one of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge from the Narrows Park. I’ve been meaning to check out that park for some time and last weekend I was over in the Gig Harbor area so I made a quick stop. The weather conditions weren’t very good but I’m not in that area too often so I made the best of it. If you haven’t been that way in a while the toll is now up to $6.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” – Matthew 10:29-31

Frozen in Time

I like taking long exposures with water especially when there are some rocks in the foreground. I usually take them near a river or stream where there’s a lot of movement in the water which can give a misty effect around the rocks. However, in this case the combination of the long exposure and lack of motion made the water look frozen. I thought it was a cool (I guess that would be a pun) side-effect. If it were frozen think all the space you’d have to practice curling.

The Narrows Bridge

I’ve been wanting to find a good spot to photograph the Tacoma Narrows Bridge so I did a little reconnaissance with Google Maps to find the perfect location. I found what looked to be a pretty good spot but there was a slight problem that I didn’t realize until I drove out there. The spot which could have been the best spot ever was located within a gated community, doh! The gate didn’t even allow foot traffic. No cars where really coming out and I didn’t feel like hoping the fence. I had my family with me and it’s hard to be swift like a ninja with a stroller. So, I went for plan b which was a nearby park. I hadn’t been there before but I figured it had access to the water. Luckily it did and there was a nice view of the bridge.
