Sunset at Picnic Point

I took this shot last December at Picnic Point in Edmonds, Washington. I hadn’t been there before so I didn’t expect to there to be such great views of the Olympic Mountains. Good thing it was such a clear day.

“He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing” – Isaiah 40:22-23

Seuss Trees

With two little ones at home we read a lot of kids books which of course includes Dr. Seuss. When I stumbled upon these trees I instantly thought they belonged in a Dr. Seuss book with their curvy trunks. Maybe a bunk lives in the trunk of these odd shaped trees 🙂

This was taken near Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park. Considering this is March and the snows melting fast this was probably my only snowshoeing trip of the season. Too sad. There’s always next year…

“I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior” – Isaiah 43:11

Marine Park Beach

Here’s one from the beach at Marine Park. I was originally going to take some shots in downtown Tacoma but then decided to head down by the water. By the time I got there the light was fading fast but I knew a long exposure would bring out some color and sure enough it did.

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine” – Isaiah 43:1

Port Wilson Lighthouse

I was at the Port Wilson Lighthouse near Port Townsend, Washington around this time last year. It’s a really neat area to visit with Fort Worden State Park and the town of Port Townsend. When I was there it was one of those days where it was bluish skies one way and overcast the other. I shot both angles and this one was toward the overcast skies. I felt a monochrome shot would add to the drama of the shot.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” – Isaiah 41:10

Old Dock at Marine Park

I took a stroll down Ruston Way in Tacoma with the missus a few nights ago who waited patiently while I took some long exposures. This of one of them which I took of the remains of an old dock near Marine Park. I’m not sure when it was built or what happened to it but I thought it made for an interesting subject.

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” – Isaiah 40:8

The Valley Below

I attempted to bike up Cayuse Pass in Mount Rainier National Park last weekend with some friends. Since it’s been a pretty dry winter we thought we could make it to the pass without any snow. It’s about 8 miles uphill from the entrance and I think we made it about 7 miles before we hit snow. If I hadn’t biked up it before I’d be more disappointed that I didn’t make it. If you do get a chance to bike up it wait until they plow the road but still have it closed to cars. If there’s enough snow you can ride in the middle of 10 foot high walls of snow along side the road from the plowing. I’m not sure if there’s enough snow for that this year though. As for the ride, it’s not too steep. My friend and I did it each hauling two kids in a bike trailer. The only bad part is it can get pretty cold riding back down so bring some gloves and warm clothes.

Here’s a quick shot I took during the ride of Mount Rainier and the valley below it.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” – Isaiah 40:28-31

Night Lights

Here’s another night shot of Seattle taken from across the Puget Sound. There was a massive large cargo ship anchored in the middle of sound that was blocking the Space Needle the previous night. This night I was in a different spot to where I could get the city and the Space Needle without any obstructions. I would have liked to incorporate the ship but it just wasn’t working from where I was at so no ship for you.

“Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” – Isaiah 30:18

Overlooking the Paradise Inn

I haven’t had a chance to stay at the Paradise Inn in Mount Rainier National Park but I hope to at least once. I wonder why it’s closed in the Winter because that would be a really cool time to stay there. Maybe it’s because they can get a lot of snow there with no way of getting people out. Then they’d have a Shining on their hands and that wouldn’t end well.

“For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness. The living, the living—they praise you, as I am doing today; parents tell their children about your faithfulness” – Isaiah 38:18-19
