Salmon Falls

I was over at Salmon Falls which is about half an hour East of Chinook Pass in Washington last fall. There was a nice rock that I could stand on to get pretty close to the falls without getting wet. Here’s one of the shots.

“Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal” – Isaiah 26:4

Alki Point Lighthouse BW

When I was in West Seattle a few weeks ago I made sure to stop by the Alki Point Lighthouse to take some shots. It was a nice and balmy 50 degrees in the middle February. I almost forgot that it was still winter. Anyway, the grounds to the lighthouse are closed for the winter but if the tide is low enough you can hop around the breakwater rocks to get some different angles. It’s also a great spot for sunset with the Olympic Mountains just to the right of the photo below. Check it out if you’re in the area.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you” – Isaiah 26:3

The Trail to Skookum Falls

The past weekend we hiked to Skookum Falls in the Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The trail is actually just outside of Mt Rainier National Park so don’t let the name of the national forest it’s located in fool you. Anyway, there are two trail that get to the falls. One is 4.2 miles and the other is 7.8. We had our 1 and 3 year old with us and we’ve done the 7.8 mile trail before so we opted for the shorter trial. The trail was pretty muddy in parts but overall it was in pretty good shape. I’ve hiked up to the base of the falls before but this time when I got there I had trouble finding the path to it. The only way I could see getting there was to scramble up a lot of mossy boulders. I didn’t have much time for boulder hopping so unfortunately I had to pass. I would have been more bummed if I hadn’t been up to it before but I didn’t want to leave my kids and wife hanging around for me that long. It was a little cold anyways.

“He will swallow up death permanently. The sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from every face, and remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. Indeed, the LORD has announced it!” – Isaiah 25:8

View From West Seattle

If you haven’t been to West Seattle it a pretty cool little beach town. There’s a nice waterfront walk that goes for a couple miles with great views of the city especially at night with reflections coming off the Puget Sound.

“Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man” – Ecclesiastes 12:13

Under The Pier

I was in Hanalei Bay, Kauai last year for sunrise. I left early in the morning from Poipu and made it all the way up there just in time for sunrise. The only bad part was the sun never came out. It was overcast and then started to rain. I did get a few shots that I liked and was going to pack it up once the rain started but then I thought I’d see what I could get under the pier.

“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless” – Ecclesiastes 5:10

Last Shot of the Day

On my way back down from snowshoeing at Paradise in Mount Rainier I pulled over in a turnout to take one last shot of the mountain. It was about 4:30 and it takes about 20 minutes to get past the park gate which closes at 5 PM in the winter. I was a little worried I wouldn’t make it in time but I just had to take one last shot. So, I took my shot and plowed my way through the snow as fast as I could to the car. Luckily we did make it through the gate but before we go there I did notice that the mountain turned a cool pink color as the sun was setting. I was really tempted to stop again but I had my kids and wife in the car and they probably wouldn’t like spending the night in a cold car especially since we didn’t have any food or snuggies to warm up in.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute” – Proverbs 31:8

Next to Poipu

Below is a picture from the beach that’s just to the right (if you’re facing the ocean) of Poipu Beach in Kauai. I’m not sure if it’s considered the same beach or not but it was a good place to catch the last light of the day.

“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God” – Proverbs 30:7-9

Black and Blanco

I visited the Cape Blanco Lighthouse in Oregon last August on a overcast and windy day. I was hoping for some blue skies but no such luck. That was okay though because ugly weather means less people around and it makes for a nice black and white shot.

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy” – Proverbs 28:13

Meet at Eagle Rock

Here’s one from the top of Eagle Rock in Birch Mountain which is located near Wenatchee, Washington. I was really hoping some of the clouds would clear out while I was there but no such luck. I had never been there before but I’m pretty sure there are some pretty spectacular views. Oh well. It was still fun to be out exploring somewhere new.

“Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down” – Proverbs 26:20
