El Capitan State Beach

We camped at El Capitan State Beach last August. The beach and views were really nice but the campground was alright. It was hard coming from camping in Oregon where they keep the campground and bathrooms pretty clean. Beware of the skunks if you camp there. I had one come within 10 feet of me. Luckily I was able to scare it away without getting sprayed. I’ve never been sprayed and I don’t plan on it.

“When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them” – Proverbs 16:7

Kelly Butte Fire Lookout

I hiked up to Kelly Butte Fire Lookout which is just outside of Mount Rainier National Park last week. The plan was to be up there for sunset which we were but I guess someone forgot to tell the sun. We had nothing but grey skies. Actually we did get a tiny sliver of sunset but it didn’t last too long and it wasn’t cool enough for a shot. I will say that the views from the lookout must be amazing on a clear day. I think I will have to head up there in the Summer or sometime in the Spring. I did notice a lot of bug spray and Citronella candles inside of the fire lookout so beware of the skeeters come that time of year. It was pretty cold when we were there (probably around 20-30F) so I didn’t have to worry about those vile creatures.

“How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!” – Proverbs 16:16

Victor Falls

Up until recently you wouldn’t have known about Victor Falls in Washington unless you were local to the area. It’s about 25 yards off the roadside but it’s at a spot where you normally go zooming by a big turn and you don’t even hear it. I found out about it from a friend of mine a few years ago but now there’s a city park so I’m sure more people know about it now. Getting to the bottom of it is a little tricky as the hillside is steep and usually wet and muddy. There are ropes to help you but it can still be difficult when lugging camera gear so be careful.

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” – Proverbs 16:3

Emmons Glacier

Here’s a view of the Emmons Glacier from the Silver Forest Trail. You can catch this hike up at the Sunrise visitor center at Mount Rainier National Park. If you are thinking of heading up there you’ll have to wait until the Spring because the road is now closed. It’s too bad because it would be fun to snowshoe up there.

“Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor” – Proverbs 15:33

That One Tree

Here’s another angle on that one tree I posted a few weeks ago. I thought it was pretty unique looking growing at the top of the cliff edge all by itself. Definitely not a good place for a rope swing.

Top of Burch Mountain

We hiked to the top of Birch Mountain when we were in Wenatchee. You can drive most of the way up there on dirt roads. I think it was about a 15 minute hike to the top from where we parked. At the top there was is a satellite antenna station which had some nice views of the surrounding area. I didn’t think about it at the time but I probably shouldn’t have lingered up there too long. Who knows what type of radiation those stations are putting off. It’s weird though. Ever since that trip whenever the microwave turns on my hearing gets amplified to the point where I can hear a cotton ball hitting the ground. Strange…

The Road to Cape Blanco Lighthouse

The Cape Blanco Lighthouse was the third and final lighthouse we saw during our drip to Oregon during the Summer. When we got there the road to the lighthouse was closed but we noticed people walking there. It was a short walk to the lighthouse but not that many people took it which was good because I had about 15 minutes with lighthouse all to myself.

“The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness” – Proverbs 15:9

Peshastin Creek

We had great weather on our drive home from Wenatchee until we hit Blewett Pass. We weren’t in a hurry to get home so we made a couple photos stops along the way. Our non-photographer friends were driving us and they seemed just as excited as I was to get some shots along the river. I thought that was awesome so I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity. Anyway, here’s one of the shots I took of Peshastin Creek. I thought the trees lining the creek with their changing leaves was pretty cool. I usually like the water flowing towards me when I do long exposure shots of rivers/creeks but the sun would have been right in my face. So, with the sun to my back I crouched down low and tried to not let my shadow ruin the shot.

Changing Fruit Tree

Here’s one from a weekend trip to Wenatchee. I’m not really sure what type of fruit tree this is but my guess is that it’s some sort of apple tree since Wenatchee is known as the Apple Capital. It was my first time to Wenatchee and I had a pretty good time. It was pretty scenic with the fall colors and the Columbia River going right through the middle of the city.

Onward to Freedom

A few years ago a made a trip over to the East Coast to check out the fall colors. We cruised from New York City up to Halifax, Canada. It was a great trip and we ended back in New York City. We had about 8 hours before our flight left back home and so we made the best of it. We wanted to head to the Statue of Liberty from the cruise terminal so I hailed a taxi and asked him how much it would be. He wouldn’t give me a straight answer and he was kind of rude so I said forget it. We’re walking and walk we did.

We walked all over the place pushing my daughter in a stroller, who was one year old at the time, and my wife and I carrying all our clothes and such in rucksacks. We discovered this nice walking/running/bike path that went along the water to where we needed to go. It was a crisp fall morning and we had a nice view of the Freedom Tower so the long walk was quite enjoyable. Besides I think the best way to experience a city is on foot. You may not be able to cover as much ground but you definitely get a more immersive experience.
