Sunset Bay

A few weeks ago we camped for four nights at Sunset Bay in Oregon. We had a really good time and it was a pretty scenic place. The only problem was that it was overcast every day we were there except for the last day when we left of course. So, the sunset aspect of Sunset Bay wasn’t that great in terms of colors. I’m just glad it didn’t rain. Tent camping with 2 kids under 3 is hard enough. Add rain to the mix and someone’s bound to go insane.

“But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, ‘The LORD is great!'” – Psalm 70:4

3-2-1 Glacade

Have you ever been glacading before? If not you must try it. Besides skiing or snowboarding it’s a great way to get down from a mountain. All you need is your behind and a plastic bag to sit on. Be prepared for some numb buns and a snownema (I’ll let you figure that out). I mentioned in a previous post about the number of people I saw hiking up Muir. Well, they not only made a nice boot path for going up the Muir Snowfield but they smoothed out some nice glacading runs (trust me you want them smooth). There were a couple that even had some jumps in them. Great fun.

March to Muir

When I hiked to Camp Muir I was surprised to see how many people there were on the trail. The hike isn’t super hard but it’s definitely not an easy hike. The good thing was that the more people on the trail the harder packed it got which made hiking in the snow easier. Here’s a shot from about 1/3 of the way up the Muir Snowfield. That’s Mount Adams in the distance.

“Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” – Psalm 90:1

Dead Horse Creek Trail

On the way up to Camp Muir we had to take a detour because of trail work that took us along the Dead Horse Creek Trail. I think it added .1 miles to our hike so it wasn’t a big deal. We got some great views of Mt Rainier and I hadn’t done that trial before so it was worth the .1 extra miles. We started the hike around 8 AM so there weren’t that many people around just a couple of bucks out for breakfast.

“His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all peoples see his glory” – Psalm 97:4-6
