Bark At The Moon

I was at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park in Eatonville, Washington a couple years ago and as I was walking around the coyotes started howling all of a sudden. It must have lasted a couple of minutes. I’m not sure what they were howling at. Maybe they didn’t like the food.

Greenwater Lakes Trail

The Greenwater Lakes hike is just outside of Mt. Rainier National Park. I’ve taken this trail to Echo Lake and it was a pretty good hike. Their are plenty of spots to catch the Greenwater River rushing by. It’s dog friendly too since it’s outside of the park for those that like to bring their 4-legged friends.

Deception Pass Bridge

I always enjoy visiting the Deception Pass Bridge when I’m up near Whidbey Island. The bridge and the views from it are pretty spectacular. I especially like how there is access to underneath the bridge where you can view the structure and kayakers battling the currents below. Just a short distance from the bridge is the state park which borders a long stretch of beach. I highly recommend going for a stroll by the water. I was able to see a Bald Eagle, a seal, and towards the end of the beach is the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. You might get lucky enough to get buzzed by a Navy Prowler.

Jarell Cove

On my way home from camping out in Belfair State Park we decided to do some exploring and found this cool little cove on the Puget Sound. There wasn’t too much boat traffic and would be a good spot to kayak around.

A Walk in the Woods

There’s no lack of trees when hiking in the Pacific Northwest. It’s especially nice on a hot and sunny day. The Skookum Falls trail just outside of the Mount Rainier National Park boundaries is an example of that. It’s a nice hike in the woods with a couple of stream crossings and views of the White River. About 3 miles in you reach Skookum Falls which is pretty impressive. Definitely worth checking out.

Palouse River Canyon

Towards the end of a hike from the Joso Bridge to Palouse Falls we came up this steep canyon up onto the bluff. I wasn’t that tired after hiking up it but I figured it was a good time to take a break and take some shots. We hiked in March which was a good time to do it because it was nice and cool. I can imagine that area gets pretty hot in the summer.

Misty Mountains

Here are some mountains I shot while on the top deck of a cruise ship. I believe we were heading into Glacier Bay in Alaska at the time. Such an awesome place. Make sure you have plenty of memory cards if you head to Alaska because you can fill them up pretty quickly.

Doheny State Park

Just after finishing a barbecue at Doheny State Park I grabbed my camera gear to check out the sunset. San Juan creek was calm and still so it provided a nice reflection.

Doheny beach is just to left. There’s a nice marina there now but before the marina it was a really good surf spot. It’s actually mentioned in the Surfin’ USA song by the Beach Boys.

Ferry at Mukilteo

One of the first photos I took with a ND 3.0 Filter. Kind of hard to shoot with because you can’t see anything out of it. So you have to lock everything down and then take the shot. We’ll after I took this picture I took the filter off and was holding it in my hand. While I was recomposing I bumped my hand and dropped my filter into the rocks/water. It was just out of reach…$70 into the drink doh!

Lime Kiln Lighthouse

The Lime Kiln Lighthouse is a cool place to visit on San Juan Island in Washington state. It not only has a lighthouse but when I was there you could see a pod of Killer Whales swimming around about a mile offshore. They weren’t close enough for me to get a good shot but it was still pretty cool.
